About the Series
Most people tend to lump all mood stabilizers into the same bucket. Additionally, many people assume this type of medication is only used for treating bipolar disorder.
However, mood stabilizers are not “one size fits all” and can treat other mental health disorders such as treatment-resistant depression. The reasons medical professionals prescribe different classes of mood stabilizers varies from patient to patient.
At the same time, the spectrum of bipolar disorder symptoms also varies from patient to patient, so different mood stabilizers may work better than others based on someone’s patient profile.
Double board-certified psychiatrist, Dr. Domenick Sportelli is an expert in prescribing mood stabilizers through his psychiatric hospital work. In this educational series, he provides an empowering, in-depth understanding of mood stabilizers. He walks through each class of mood stabilizers currently available, their side effects, the timelines each one takes to really work, and a behind-the-scenes look of what should go into an adequate prescribing process.
51% of people with symptoms of bipolar disorder don’t comply with their medication regimen. This education will empower patients and their loved ones to better grasp the ins and outs of mental health treatment. In turn, they’ll understand how to talk to their doctor about their treatment options in order to improve their mental health outcomes.
