Series Overview

The 4 Attachment Styles and How They Affect Us 9 Min

Dr. Judy kicks off the series with how our attachment style can impact all areas of our lives, and why it’s so critical to understand in the first place. She walks through each type of attachment style and whether someone can have a “mixed bag” of attachment styles. She breaks down how our attachment style helps us navigate our mental health—and even how different attachment styles can lead to certain mental health symptoms.

Secure Attachment: How to Spot the Causes, Behaviors, & Daily Impacts 14 Min

In this session, Dr. Judy breaks down what securely attached behavior looks like in childhood, teenage years, and adulthood. She shares signs that a parent is facilitating secure attachment in their child—and parenting strategies to foster a secure attachment in a child with an anxious temperament. She explains how to tell whether your parents fostered a secure attachment, and the signs you are securely attached to your friends, romantic partners, and at work.

Anxious-Preoccupied Attachment: How to Spot the Causes, Behaviors, & Daily Impacts 14 Min

Dr. Judy does a deep-dive on the trademark signs of anxious-preoccupied behaviors—-and the emotional reasons someone has this attachment style. She explains the risks that this attachment style can pose to someone’s relationships and daily life, and how to spot and avoid those risks. She walks through the signs of anxious-preoccupied behavior in yourself, your friends, your romantic partner, and your coworkers or boss. Finally, she explains immediate coping strategies those with anxious-preoccupied attachment styles can use to reduce anxiety.

Dismissive-Avoidant Attachment: How to Spot the Causes, Behaviors, & Daily Impacts 15 Min

Dr. Judy explains the key behaviors—-and the mindset—that drive a dismissive-avoidant attachment style. She sheds light on what parenting styles and behaviors can lead to a child developing this type of attachment. She discusses the areas of life in which those with dismissive-avoidant attachment thrive, and where they may struggle. Finally, she shares how to work through the struggles that someone with a dismissive-avoidant attachment style may face in those areas.

Fearful-Avoidant Attachment: How to Spot the Causes, Behaviors, & Daily Impacts 11 Min

Fearful-avoidant attachment is the rarest of the four types. Dr. Judy explains why it’s rare, how this style manifests in both children and adults, and the various factors that cause someone to exhibit fearful-avoidant behavior. She walks through the common mental health disorders that coexist with a fearful-avoidant attachment style. Finally, she shares why this style may overlap with other attachment styles, and how a fearful-avoidant parent may impact the attachment style of the child.

The Attachment Style Assessment [Kyle & Dr. Judy Share Their Results] 9 Min

In our final session, Kyle and Dr. Judy take an attachment style assessment and walk through their results. Dr. Judy breaks down how the assessment works and how taking it can help you determine the areas of your life that can be enhanced.

About the Series

Everybody has their own style of bonding emotionally with the people in their lives. This is called attachment style—and it plays a central role in the healthiness of our relationships—from the moment we develop our very first bond.

This attachment style influences our choices in our career, friendships, romantic relationships, and in our mental and physical health.

Those who are perfectly “securely attached,” in general, flourish. However, most people have some semblances of an insecure attachment type. With that said, anyone can benefit from gaining clarity into their attachment style.

Neuropsychologist Dr. Judy Ho is an expert in attachment theory—she helps people work through relationship problems which arise from different attachment styles.

In this series, she shares exclusive insight into her expertise in attachment theory, what causes someone to develop each different type of attachment style, and how to recognize your own. She shares how this might manifest in your relationships, and why it might contribute to some of your mental health struggles.

Most importantly, Dr. Judy shares tips on how to improve your attachment style in order to improve your relationships… and greatly enhance your mental wellness.
